Self Made Man:

We walked into the wind yesterday,
The sunshine was laughing flowers on the river,
And the flowers were laughing colors under green,
The bicycle tires were humming on the blacktop,
Along the river trail,
And at the place where fresh air met limestone,
That little parking garage on the corner,
In old Batavia the city of wind,
There is a statue there on the corner,
A man with chisel and hammer,
Carving himself out of unformed stone,
And somehow that stands in my mind,
Even when the sunshine titters on the river,
But the geese just keep swimming,
Black eyes searching for food,
And in the sunset hour it's time to go,
Somewhere called home.

Reflections on yesterday. Cool statue,
reminds me of how I came up in some ways.
