Sailing The Sky
Wings in silence I shall sail,
and quiet reflection will prevail.
I see the beauty from above,
while I practice my youthful love.
Glass above, controls below,
sailing the sea of sky, I shall go.
Carry me far, oh rising winds so warm,
like an agile bird, o'er lake and farm.
Above is blue, I feel so free,
the sky is mine, and carries me.
Incredible, so far I can see,
at times it feels like eternity.
Peaceful now, so far above,
floating down, just like a dove.
Enjoy now this quiet time,
and memories created, sublime.
It's quiet, and beatiful, sailing the roof of the world.
I share it with the hawks and Eagles in my dreams.

Ever since I was very little, I've had this dream of being a pilot, and flying airplanes.
It was the first thing I ever wanted to do and be. I never have quite made it there.
This poem is what I imagine it must be like to fly a sailplane, gliding from one column of rising warm air,
or thermal, to the next, across country in motorless silence and grace. How grand it would be! I saw
three sailplanes flying and circling last Saturday. I saw two hawks doing the same. It was a very good
day......as I walked in a peacful natural setting with my love. We were walking a state bike and foot trail down the
Illinois & Michigan canal, the river on one side, the canal on the other, and us. It was kind of like flying too,
just with my heart instead of a plane.
