Observatory Of Reality:
The physicists say, in hushed whispers,
The act of observing defines the observation,
Therefore the universe is observed,
And definition belongs to the watchers.
In times gone by less watchers stood,
Less breathed and thought and loved,
Less of them were alive to ponder,
Upon God's creation bad or good.
The universe was less defined,
Less sparks of God and more wild mind.
Perhaps magic came to be,
Possibly before such consensus of defining reality.
Rules were scarce and speculation rife,
Therefore the boundaries of reality were not ripe,
Magic fading out as more and more,
We all called the world the same way.
So perhaps science,
Eats a bit more magic each day!

This speaks to a theory in physics that proposes that the universe is defined by the act of observing it. All the old fairy tales
say that magic "slowly faded away". I have wondered, once upon a time, if the universe was less defined because there were less
intelligent beings alive and in agreement on what the "rules" of the universe are in past times. If that were so, then scientific experiments
and the results they give might more solidify the nature of reality with each exposure to multitudes of people...thereby eating away
at the potential for magic through belief in observation. Even the Bible stated that "He who has faith can move mountains".
Perhaps there is something to strong belief being able to shape reality.....and it is reinforced by sharing multiple believers.
It would be funny if God played such a joke on his "children" without directly stating so. However, another theory....doesn't a child
generally grow up some day? But that's another poem......*Grin*

Daniel, I really appreciated this verse. I also ponder if the knowledge of man has watered down life with such analytical forces that we have lost the magic of true knowledge that Jesus speaks of in Matthew 17:20. "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. To this he also added: "However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting." Many of us pray these days, but how many still take the time to fast? Thanks again for the wake up call, Daniel. Sincerely, Sharon Wilshire

Dan, I very much agree with Sharon's comment regarding life being watered-down with man's analytical force -- I think the magic is lost in the attempt to define it -- as is the same for the universe -- it is not defined by it's obervation, nor should it be. It just is, and should not be defined in any terms other than belief in it's existence. And magic ... well ... it is there for anyone who believes -- isn't that what faith is -- believing in something that can not be seen as though you could, and believing in something which is not, as though it were? How wonderful, Dan, that your poem is so thought-provoking. I think it will bring a lot of people to a place within themselves where they have not visited for a long time. *smile* Thank you! Leigh |

Something I failed to clarify yesterday as I was writing this: I am not pointing to science and saying " This is a bad ything". However, people need to realize that faith has a definite effect on their own personal reality, and can indeed move mountains. If you believe in something enough, a way to it will come to you eventually. Such as God. Such as love. Such as being a fireman. Such as being an astronaut. Such as writing great poetry. It all becomes much more possible when you put belief behind effort. |
