Dark Knight:

Staring off into the setting Sun, he arises.
Waiting, just waiting for the night's many surprises.
Visions he sees, encroaching on his realm.
Donning a cape, he turns with a whirl,
Masked in the darkness, he revels in his plan.

This is the tale of Dark Night Man.

Turning to the computer in his well decked cave,
He knows the web is all the rave,
Writing poems and letters, too,
He enlightens the world, "Let darkness rule!"
Promoting the wisdom of those who're up late,

It's time for a new day with a way to relate.

Off to the editor of darksky.org,
"Use my poems, don't be a mindless cyborg!"
Off to the poet's "Let's vanish light,
At least for one spectacular communal night!"
Homer's October would set an example,
Let's get together & light pollution we'll trample.

Parties outdoors on a weekend night!

It will be such a grand, heavenly view,
The Cosmos revealed in truth, to me and to you!
Telescope parties and fifties-style neighbors,
"Hey look through mine!" and small types of favors,
You might meet real people, hold back your fright,

You might just learn about the stars that night!

The astronomers would wait, yes they would drool,
A truly dark night, for their billion dollar tool,
Scientific discovery on such an eve,
On whatever weekend in October nature would leave,

Clear skies in all their glory.

International Dark Night, a holiday treat,
Not based on religion, just science that's neat.
Our hero now must face the day,
He dresses in Millennium Tecchie and puts his magic cape away.
No one knows the true face of delight,

Because we don't yet have a Dark Night.

www.darksy.org, also known as IDA, the
International Dark Sky Association. I recently
gave the editor permission to use "City Glow"
and "UFO Night" in their quarterly newsletter.
They have a section there called "Poetic
Inspiration" where poets can publish poems
about the growing problem of light pollution.
This poem also goes back to my idea of a holiday
where all lights are off & workers too,
one night a year. People would have telescope
parties and learn constellations, get together,
have fun and learn. The skies where it is truly
dark are incredible, those of you living in cities
should take a desert or ocean vacation and just
go look up! Take someone who knows and loves
the night sky with you, it will be fun! I also of course,
Had to include my love of comic book super heroes,
given such an opportunity for the pun. See "Midnight
Phone Booth Poet" if you like that style. It goes a lot
farther in that direction and I think is humorous.
Me? I guess I get to be (Echo effect)
The Dark Knight...night...ight....ght..t..
